Collaboration

I believe that you should shoot what you want to shoot. Don't wait for someone to pay you to create the work you want to create. Just get out there and do it. You will learn a lot from experience and then have the opportunity to apply it to paid jobs when the pressure is on. In this particular case, a dear friend and incredible VFX artist approached me to work with him on an image for his website. The first thing that went through my head was... NOOOOOOOO, then... YESSSSSSS quickly followed. Let me explain.

I am one of those people that always second guesses myself, even though I know exactly what I am doing. The self-doubt doesn't stop me from creating the work, in many ways, it forces me to push myself and rise above my insecurities. Regardless when K reached out, my reaction was based on my admiration for HIS work and the thought "how the hell am I going to deliver something that will make him happy." You should follow him on Instagram @one.blur.pixel; you will immediately see what a talented photographer he is. HE STILL SHOOTS WITH FILM GUYS! It was after K told me that he was a fan of my work, that I realized this would be a fantastic opportunity to collaborate (stroking an ego will get you a lot in this world). I needed to create something that wouldn't be a complete departure from my style but still pay tribute to his aesthetic. It was a marriage of vision.

We met in Chinatown at 6 am when it was still dark and -7 degrees C. In my rush to get out of the house without waking my sleeping Toddler I decided to forgo my search for gloves. A decision I immediately regretted. Thankfully they dropped out of my camera bag halfway through the shoot and the feeling in my fingers and sharpness of imagery quickly improved. I love this shoot and welcome any opportunity to collaborate with my fellow artists!
