WHEN AND WHY?
I'm often asked when is the best time to schedule a newborn session. There are a few things to consider when booking your newborn session; here are my when's and why's.
WHEN? - FIRST WEEK
For families who want to get pictures of the baby immediately to share the news with something other than a shaky i-phone photo.
WHY?
These sessions can occur in the hospital or as soon as you get home from the hospital. It isn't a session without outfit changes and props. It's a session that traditionally feels more documentary as it will capture the rawness and beauty of the early hazy newborn days. With covid restrictions, these sessions are harder to achieve in hospitals, so you may be looking at a session in-home.
WHEN? 2-3 weeks
For those who want to take photos of the entire family to celebrate the momentous occasion and new addition.
WHY?
Families wishing to photograph the entire family in a lifestyle way should aim for 2-3 weeks after the birth. This is the sweet spot. Mom is feeling a little bit closer to herself. Your newborn is sleepy and easy to photograph, and their features have settled from their birth. This is when most of my newborn sessions take place. We tentatively pick a date 2-3 weeks after your due date, and once the baby is born, we can reschedule if necessary.
WHEN? - Anytime
For families who forgot to plan a newborn session.
WHY?
I've been there. Twice actually. You have the baby, and then you are swept into the newborn whirlwind. One week becomes two months, and then when you finally come up for air, you realize you forgot to schedule a newborn session. Call me whenever you are ready. We will capture moments that are just as special as the early days because now is better than never.
