THE LIFESTYLE SESSION
In a season where mini sessions run rampant, I am so glad to have families that choose a lifestyle session. Don't get me wrong, I believe in the mini for many reasons, and I offer holiday mini sessions, which I will discuss in a future post, but here are a few reasons to consider the big sister to the mini.
Flexible Start Time
I usually only shoot one lifestyle session a day. Sometimes two, but I never stack them on top of each other. I do this so that my families have a flexible start time. If you have children, you know why this is important, but I'll tell you why I think it's essential. Like it or not, a photography session can come with a bit of tension. Nothing in the world is worse for a shoot than a stressed-out and tense family. Giving my family a flexible start time (within reason and communication) means cutting the tension in half, and that's a great place to start.
Personalized Shoots
If you are like me, we do one family session a year. The kids grow, their interests change, your home changes, and you should use the annual shoot as a way to document your life. For me, this means shooting in personalized locations. It could be your home, a local boardwalk, or your new favorite beach. The point is that you can decide where you want to shoot, making the session a lot more meaningful.
Longer Sessions
I'm not going to lie to you; I am pretty generous with my time. I like creating beautiful imagery for your family, and I don't mind spending an extra 15-20 minutes getting THE SHOT. A lifestyle session allows me the flexibility to shoot more. Nobody is waiting for their turn, and if you are enjoying the shoot (which you will), you will be glad to have the extra images one day.
So next year, I hope you plan for a lifestyle session. Pick your favorite season, favorite place, and favorite people, and let’s save memories! Did you know Fall isn’t the only pretty season ; p
